LP Artwork: That's Lou

Louis Allen Rawls (Dec 1, 1933 - Jan 6, 2002)

Frank Sinatra once stated that Rawls had "the classiest singing and silkiest chops in the singing game". Certainly, there are many fantastic recordings for us to enjoy, including his version of Street of Dreams which fits neatly into this week's street-themed program.

LP Artwork: Ella Loves Cole, Ain't We Got Fun & Barrelhouse, Boogie and the Blues

Three artwork selections from this week's program; I was spoiled for choice! Ella Loves Cole - her later collection of Porter songs - was one of the first Fitzgerald LPs I purchased... It was a new release at the time!

The Bob Hope EP title song featured his friend -  and very good singer - Margaret Whiting. And the cover for the Ella Mae Morse release is in a class of its own!

LP Artwork: Cat Meets Chick & Five Feet of Soul

The album Jimmy Rushing, Ada Moore and Buck Clayton's band recorded in 1955. Whilst I became a Big Joe Turner fan on a first hearing, it took me longer to appreciate the wonderful Mr Rushing.

This is a great record but my personal favourite of his has to be Five Feet of Soul. The sessions , in January 1963, found him in top-notch company with a band packed with Basie alumni.
